Wrestling (Pali)

In Pteria, on the feast of Zoodochos Pigi, something truly special awaits: men from the village wrestle in front of the church, following the traditions of mountainous Pontus. The matches use traditional techniques, with wrestlers trying to throw their opponent to the ground, and the winner receiving a calf—an animal symbolizing strength and endurance. The famous egg-cracking contests follow, in an atmosphere of joy that continues a long-standing tradition.
