The Klidonas Ritual – Filotas
Every June, the village of Filotas comes alive in the glow of fires and the laughter of young women whispering wishes into the “silent water”. Immerse yourself in the Klidonas ritual, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. It is one of the most vibrant summer festivities of the Municipality of Amyntaio—a ceremony with roots in antiquity, centered on love, divination, and purification.
Unmarried girls place small personal objects into an earthen vessel filled with water, believing that during the night the saint will reveal their destiny. At the same time, young men light fires and jump over the flames—three times for good luck—warding off evil spirits and welcoming the light.
