The Christmas Bonfires

Every year on December 23, Florina is illuminated by the magic of Christmas. From midnight onward, the famous Christmas Bonfires are lit in every neighborhood, many of which reach heights of up to fifteen meters. Locals gather around the flames, singing, dancing, and sharing wine and traditional treats, in a celebration that brings together generations and cultures. Deeply rooted in local tradition, the custom is revived annually with the support of the municipality and cultural associations and is considered one of the most iconic traditions of Western Macedonia; a night of light and warmth in the heart of winter.
