Rock Paintings of the Southwestern Shore
Along the southwestern shore of Lake Megali Prespa, painted figures appear on the cliffs—remnants of frescoes that once decorated the interiors of small hermitage churches. The Virgin Blachernitissa stands in a shallow rock-carved niche, with its inscription dated 1455, while nearby the Virgin Eleousa of 1373 survives almost untouched by time within its cave. These rock paintings are only visible when rowing across the lake, watching the shoreline turn into an open-air iconostasis where nature and faith merge into one.
