Portitsa Bridge near Spilaio
At the entrance to the dramatic Venetikos Gorge stands one of Greece’s most photographed (and instagrammed) stone bridges: the Portitsa Bridge. Surrounded by lush greenery and flowing waters, it appears to naturally rise from the landscape. Dating to around 1743 and allegedly funded by the nearby Monastery of Spilaio, the bridge has two arches — the larger of which spans 13.8 meters, while the smaller one measures 5 meters. Its total length reaches 34 meters, with a width of nearly 2.70 meters. Crossing it offers breathtaking views of the river below and the imposing entrance of the gorge. From here begins the old cobbled path leading to the village of Spilaio — a hike well worth taking.
