Open-Air Museum of the Neolithic Lakeside Settlement of Dispilio

A mere 7 km from the city of Kastoria, on the southern shore of the lake, you shall encounter a particularly important attraction: a well-designed experiential reconstruction of a Neolithic settlement. On wooden platforms, eight life-size huts bring to life scenes of lakeside living from the 6th–4th millennium BC, based on the accidental discovery of the settlement in 1932, as well as the findings of later systematic excavations courtesy of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. At the Open-Air Museum of the Neolithic Lakeside Settlement of Dispilio, you will also see replicas of the most significant finds, including three bone flutes and a wooden tablet with engraved linear symbols, which may represent an early form of writing. An ideal stop if you are traveling with family and children.
