Monastery of Panagia Zidanio in Mikrovalto
Passing through the Kamvounia Mountains near Mikrovalto, it is worth stopping at the Monastery of Panagia Zidanio, also known as Zidaniotissa. Founded in the 16th century, it is associated with the miraculous icon of Panagia Eleousa, transferred here in 1541 and believed to have saved Kozani from the influenza epidemic of 1918. Despite suffering destruction by the Turks in 1854 and by the Germans in 1943, the monastery was rebuilt and remained an important beacon for religion and culture. Today, it functions as a convent and serves as a place of prayer and spiritual reflection for many faithful visitors.
