Loukanikofagia

Sausages (loads of them!), local wine, heritage dishes and delicacies prepared by the butchers of Velventos according to traditional recipes await you on January 18th, the feast day of Saint Athanasios. On that day, the Municipality of Velventos hosts the famous “Loukanikofagia”, a very popular and truly hearty custom, which has its roots in the era of pig slaughtering, back when residents would collectively gather and taste the freshly made sausages of the year. The tradition remains strong, with a growing number of people supporting it each year.
