Lazarines
On Lazarus Saturday, in Korisos, the streets fill with white garments and joyful voices. These are the Lazarines—girls aged 3 to 15—who sing the Lazarus carols while carrying decorated baskets. Residents welcome them warmly and offer eggs, which are later taken to the church to be dyed red and distributed to the faithful on Easter night. The custom culminates with a procession around Saint George’s church and songs welcoming spring.
