Lake Polyfytos

In the Kozani Regional Unit, Lake Polyfytos stands out as an enchanting destination, where natural beauty meets one of Greece’s most significant water-related projects. Created in the 1970s with the construction of the Polyfytos Dam on the flow of Aliakmonas River, it now stretches between the imposing mountains of Pieria, Vermio, and Askio, forming a landscape that captivates visitors. A landmark is the High Bridge of Servia, approximately 1,372 meters long, connecting the two shores and creating the illusion of floating above the calm waters. The lake hosts rich fish populations, while the surrounding area has evolved into a vibrant wetland where over120 bird species —including Dalmatian pelicans and herons— find refuge. Here, visitors can relax while fishing or observe birds, while the lake’s clear waters provide the ideal conditions for rowing, wakeboarding, and water skiing, offering moments of action within a magical natural setting.
