Holy Church of Taxiarch Michael the Archangel of Aiani
The Holy Church of Taxiarch Michael the Archangel awaits you just outside Aiani (approximately two kilometers away). This is a single-aisled post-Byzantine church which, despite suffering severe damage from the 1995 earthquake and being protected today by a modern shelter, still exudes the atmosphere of earlier times. The frescoes date to 1549 AD, according to the founder’s inscription, and constitute a work created courtesy of the sponsorship of the noble Stolis and his wife. It is an outstanding example of the religious art of the period.
