Historical–Folklore & Natural History Museum of Kozani

At the Historical–Folklore & Natural History Museum of Kozani, each floor narrates a different story about the region. In the basement, you will encounter rocks and fossilized insects and animals that reveal the geological and biological evolution of the area. On the upper floors, expect to witness archaeological and historical artifacts, authentic costumes, tools, furniture, and artworks that recreate everyday life of locals from the 17th to the 20th century. The folklore collection is considered the museum’s “crown jewel”. Here, you will explore traditional culture — from professions and customs to music and traditional dress code. The top mezzanine level recreates life inside a Kozani home from the Ottoman era to the late 1950s, reflecting the economic prosperity shaped by trade relations with Central Europe, which was also reflected in now-extinguished impressive manor homes.
