Grevena Clock Tower

In the heart of the city, next to City Hall in Eleftheria Square, you will encounter Grevena’s ultimate landmark: the historic Clock Tower. It has stood proudly for centuries, seeming to not only count the hours, but also the city’s stories. What immediately stands out is its clock tower, with its pentagonal layout and height exceeding 20 meters. Its base is built of roughly hewn stone, rising into a brick structure topped by an impressive conical roof supported by five arches. On top of it, a small airplane-shaped weather vane adds a playful detail to the monument. If you climb the spiral staircase inside, you will reach a surrounding balcony with an iron railing, where sweeping views of the city unfold before you. The tower was originally built in 1776 and took its current form in 1906, making it one of the few surviving Ottoman clock towers of this type in Greece. The Clock Tower is more than just a sight — it is Grevena’s point of reference, a silent witness to changing eras that bridges past and present. It is no coincidence that it appears on the Municipality’s logo.
