Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra

Built in 1844, the Church of Agios Georgios in Eratyra is an outstanding example of 19th-century religious art and architecture. It is a three-aisled timber-roofed basilica with a five-part layout (including the outer narthex), harmoniously blending local building traditions with broader Western Macedonian influences. Inside, the carved wooden iconostasis stands out for its exceptional sculptural decoration — a representative work of post-Byzantine woodcarving at the era of its peak. According to tradition, it was crafted over seventeen years by three artisans from Seltsa. The church’s frescoes, rich in iconographic themes, combine traditional techniques with elements of folk art. Outside, the impressive bell tower, built in 1880, completes the architectural ensemble and stands tall in the village square.
