Carnival and “Bourboulos”
In Deskati, Carnival begins on Tsiknopempti (Smoky Thursday) with dances, songs and hordes of masqueraders roaming the town as well as other areas across the Municipality, drawing even the most reserved into the frenzied spirit of the days. Each day, traditional happenings come to life —the Traditional Wedding, the Camel, the Bear, the Bonfires— while carnival parties and events for young and old are organised in local venues and surrounding villages. The festivities emphatically peak on Carnival Sunday, when the residents in their entirety gather in the town’s central square for the burning of the Carnival effigy, known as “Bourboulos”. A spectacular finale that remains unforgettable.
