Bridge of Ziakas
Just outside the village of Ziakas, over the Velonia River, stands the imposing Bridge of Ziakas, also known as the Tourkogephyro or Bridge of Tista. Built in the 19th century, it evokes images of caravans and travellers who once passed along the so-called “Royal Road”, the old trade route leading to Thessaly. This double-arched bridge features one large and one auxiliary arch, with relieving openings above the piers to channel floodwaters. It measures 41 metres in length, 3.10 metres in width and reaches approximately 7.5 metres in height, gracing the village with a sense of strength and harmony. Walking along its finely crafted stone-paved deck, you sense how this structure continues to unite not only the riverbanks, but also the past with the present.
