Bridge of Stabekis near Krania

Near the springs of the Venetikos River, outside Krania, stands the Bridge of Stabekis, a beautiful single-arched stone bridge of the 19th century. It spans a small stream, but the height of its arch —reaching 12 meters— graces it with an impressive presence within the landscape. It measures nearly 25 meters in length and slightly over 2 meters in width, and it is an exemplary landmark of traditional bridge-building, as it features a relieving opening and triangular projections protecting it from strong waters. Its name probably derives from a former landowner of the area. It formed part of the road connecting Ioannina with Grevena via Metsovo, and today stands as a fine example of pre-industrial road construction.
