Bonfires

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, the neighborhoods of Deskati come alive with traditional bonfires lit in every quarter, burning until the early morning hours, just before the festive carols begin to sound. Young and old alike gather around them with songs, dances and playful banters, creating a warm, festive atmosphere. The informal “competition” between neighborhoods, over which fire will burn the longest, makes locals participate with utmost enthusiasm in this traditional celebration, to which you are invited to partake.
