The Momogeri
During the Twelve Days between Christmas and Epiphany Day, the Momoeri take to the streets of Amyntaio’s villages dressed in traditional costumes, accompanied by drums and lyres. One of the oldest Pontic folk performances, this custom is rich in humor, music, and symbolism: the Bride, Fertility, the Young man defeating the Old man, and the eternal cycle of time renewed through laughter and song. Groups go from house to house offering wishes and receiving treats, until the celebration reaches its peak in the village square. Here, you are not just a spectator—you dance, laugh, and become one with a celebration whose roots stretch deep into time.
