Fanoi
A ritual deeply rooted in tradition and linked to ancient Dionysian celebrations fills the streets and squares each year with light, song, and dance. Around the Fanoi —large bonfires lit in specially designated areas— locals and visitors gather as one, singing, dancing, and surrendering to the rhythm of traditional music. You can wander from neighborhood to neighborhood and from bonfire to bonfire, discovering different versions of the custom, as each fire has its own group, its own music, and its own way of making you feel part of it.
Where to experience it: The custom is revived in Servia, Avles, Goules, Imera, Mesiani, Trigoniko, and Platanorrema.
