Funerary Custom
On the second day of Easter, in villages with Pontic roots, a deeply moving tradition is revived: the Pontic funerary custom. It is a practice that unites generations and demonstrates that the presence of departed loved ones continues to accompany the community through the ages. Families visit the cemeteries, tend to the resting places of their ancestors, light oil lamps with the Holy Light, and leave red eggs — symbols of Resurrection and rebirth. The atmosphere fills with Pontic melodies and hymns, while traditional Pontic delicacies are shared among relatives and friends. The custom is revived in the villages of Alonakia, Drepano, and Protochori.
