Gourounohara (Pork Feast)

A custom deeply rooted in rural tradition, the Gourounohara of Vlasti is revived every December. It recalls the times when the slaughtering of the house-bred pigs during the Christmas season was a major event for the community, as their meat and fat provided farm families with essential food supplies for the entire winter. Today, residents gather to take part in traditional techniques of preparing pork products—such as tsigarides (crispy pork pieces cooked in their own fat), pan-fried pork dishes, and sausages—and celebrate together with music and festivity, honoring tradition and collective memory.
