Boubounes
Planning on spending the Clean Monday long weekend in Kastoria? In this case, you shall also witness the Boubounes light up the neighborhoods on Cheesefare Sunday. These are outdoor bonfires around which an exuberant feast takes place, featuring brass music, local dishes, wine, and tsipouro. Traditionally, the fire is linked to purification and cleansing prior to the Lenten fast, while also being a metaphor for the victory of light over darkness.
