Gournochara and Tsigarides

Among the customs hidden within the winter festivities of the Municipality of Deskati, “gournochara” (pig-feast) is among the most particularly characteristic. It is customarily held in many villages of the area, a few days before Christmas, when locals prepare the famous “tsigarides” —crispy pieces of pork cooked in their own fat— setting up a spontaneous feast with music, wine and great spirits. It is a celebration open to all, making you feel the warmth of Macedonian hospitality in the winter cold.
