Manakia Film Festival

The Manakia Film Festival is dedicated to the Grevena-born brothers Giannakis and Milton Manaki, photographers and pioneers of Balkan cinematography. In 1905 they filmed the first motion picture in the Balkans, laying the foundations of a new era in audiovisual storytelling. The film festival is organised by the S+ aesthetic (S+ αισθeτικό) agency and the “Elpida” Association of Grevena, with the support of local institutions, and has now acquired an internationally oriented identity, with artists participating from many countries. It takes place at various locations in the city of Grevena and in Avdella, the birthplace of the Manaki brothers, giving you the opportunity to attend screenings at the Grevena Cultural Centre, view exhibitions, and participate in seminars. The festival lasts three days and is usually held in early September. If you wish to attend, you can consult the detailed programme on the official website of the event.
