Florina, November 14–18, 2025
The Region of Western Macedonia, guided by the strategy and vision of Governor Mr. Georgios Amanatidis, enters a new cinematic chapter this November, in the Regional Unit of Florina. From November 14 to 18, the city of Florina will transform into a meeting point for stories, images, and people, as it hosts the Balkan Cinema Panorama — an event designed to highlight both the shared perspectives and the contrasts of the Balkans through the art of film.
The Panorama will feature selected films from Romania, Bulgaria, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Turkey, and Croatia, curated by Dimitris Kerkinos. These films shed light on the region’s identities, memories, and borders through the lens of a contemporary narrative. As a special tribute to Theo Angelopoulos, a curated selection of scenes filmed in Florina will be presented, creating a renewed space for dialogue among filmmakers, scholars, and audiences. The program will include discussions and presentations exploring themes of identity and memory, as well as a Balkan Cinema Workshop, approaching the Balkans from cinematic, anthropological, and cultural perspectives.
The initiative is led by the Deputy Region of Tourism, Culture & Environment of Western Macedonia and is implemented in collaboration with the Florina Cultural Club, with the support of the Deputy Regional Unit of Florina and the Municipality of Florina. It forms part of the Region’s broader strategy to gradually establish a permanent Balkan Cinema Festival based in Florina. With its longstanding contribution to film education and the preservation of local cinematic culture, the Florina Cultural Club stands as the natural partner in this new endeavor. Together, they are shaping a vision in which Florina becomes a reference point for Balkan cinema — a city where the silence of the landscape meets the pulse of contemporary images.
