Holy Monastery of Saint Athanasios in Eratyra

Two kilometers from Eratyra stands the Monastery of Saint Athanasios, dating to before 1600 yet reaching its peak of prominence in the 18th century. After its destruction in 1794, it was rebuilt in 1797, acquiring its distinctive fortified structure, the koulia (defensive tower). The church features a carved wooden iconostasis and welcomes large numbers of faithful each year on the feast day of Saint Athanasios, set within the imposing natural landscape that surrounds it.
