Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity
On the route from Velventos to Katafygi, within the forest slopes of the Pieria Mountains, you will encounter the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity, another noteworthy monument of the region’s religious and historical heritage. The preserved parts of the old monastery are the katholikon, a single-aisled wooden-roofed church with a narthex and a women’s gallery, as well as the western wing of the cells. According to tradition and written testimonies, the Monastery was founded in the 15th century and went on to function as an official religious center until 1860. After the liberation of 1912, it ceased to count among the active monasteries. Today, it is liturgically served by priests from Velventos, while renovations have been carried out and guesthouses have been erected, courtesy of the city’s residents.
