Natural History Museum in Milia

In Milia, Grevena, you will find a museum that is small in size yet immense in importance, especially for palaeontology aficionados. The Natural History Museum is among the most impressive attractions in the region, housing more than 2,000 fossils and findings that remained hidden in the soil of Grevena for millions of years. As you walk through the museum, you will encounter exhibits of fossilised elephants, felines, rhinoceroses, turtles, hipparions, bears, sabre-toothed animals, gazelles, tapirs and wild boars, as well as an impressive large bovine that was internationally named Grevenobos antiquus in honor of the land of Grevena where it was discovered. The exhibition peaks with minerals and rocks, as well as invertebrate animals from the region’s ancient seabed, dating back 30 million years. The ultimate highlight is the world’s largest tusks, measuring 5.02 metres, recorded in the Guinness Book of Records. A unique find that crowns the museum as a major highlight of your journey, one that will also delight children visitors.
