Bridge of Liatisas near Spilaio
Also known as the “Bridge of the Klepht” or “Bridge at the Leap”, this single-arched stone bridge lies just outside Spilaio, one of three historic bridges in the area. It is built over the Velonia River, within a narrow gorge approximately 10 metres long, framed by steep cliffs and small hazel trees. It is believed to have replaced an earlier wooden bridge. According to legend, it is named after the klepht Liatisas, who, while pursued by Ottoman forces, leapt across the gorge to escape. He vowed that, if he survived, he would build a bridge at that spot. Thus, tradition holds, one of the most dramatic bridges of Grevena came into existence.
