Bassara Mansion

The Bassara Manor is to be found in Dolcho, on Byzantίου Street. A characteristic example of Macedonian mansions and one of the oldest surviving ones (mid-18th century). Built by fur merchant M. Bassara, it remained in the family for generations, which during the first half of the 19th century maintained strong commercial ties with Constantinople. Following its recent restoration, the mansion—also known as “the Albanian’s” (nicknamed after its last owner before passing to the Greek state)—has regained its former brilliance, highlighting the power of an era of commercial prosperity.
