Church of Saint Nicholas of Nun Eupraxia

Within the historic fabric of the city of Kastoria stands the Church of Saint Nicholas of Nun Eupraxia, a small yet significant monument of the late Byzantine period. It is a single-aisle, timber-roofed basilica with a later continuous narthex added along the southern and western sides. According to a surviving inscription, the church was renovated and frescoed in 1486 at the expense of Nun Eupraxia, a donation that reflects its role as a beacon of religious and spiritual life at the time. The preserved frescoes on the eastern, northern, and southern walls, dating to the late 15th century, are particularly worth a visit, due to their high quality and rare iconography. Today, the Church of Saint Nicholas of Nun Eupraxia remains an integral part of Kastoria’s cultural and religious heritage, offering visitors a meaningful encounter with the city’s ecclesiastical art, through Kastoria’s spiritual tradition.
