Archaeological Museum of Argos Orestiko
Dedicate a visit to the Archaeological Museum of the Regional Unit of Kastoria, located in Argos Orestiko, and you will witness the brilliant ancient history unfold before you, as narrated not only through organized excavations across the entire Kastoria area, but also thanks to lucky finds from local residents. Among the museum’s rich exhibits (elaborate jewelry, ritual objects, ceramic vessels, and works of art) displayed in a pleasant, well-designed space, two items stand out: the unique infantry phalanx shield of the Paeonians, as well as the decree of the Battynaians, the most important political-themed inscription from Western Macedonia. The permanent collection includes sections ranging from the Early Iron Age to Orestis during the Roman period (up to the 1st century BC). The museum also organizes activities for both schools and the general public, and it hosts interesting temporary exhibitions, details of which are available on its website.
