Holy Church of Saint Demetrios in Gilofos
The parish church of the Gilofos settlement in Deskati, a beautiful stone church built in the 18th century, is a steady beacon of the area’s spiritual life. It is dedicated to Saint Demetrios the Myrrh-streaming, whose feast is celebrated every year on October 26th with a large fair, and a hierarchical Divine Liturgy, along with cultural events and a large participation of the faithful. Inside the church, your attention will be drawn to the icons, works of the iconographer Vasileios Tsourchlis from Agios Georgios, Grevena. Particularly notable is the depiction of the Neomartyr Saint George of Ioannina dressed in a fustanella, a detail that brings the iconography to outstanding depths of historical and national accuracy.
