Collection of Pencil Sharpeners and Erasers – Valtonea
An unexpected story brought the small village of Valtonea to worldwide attention. In 2003, Dimitra Koutsouridou—a local girl of remarkable strength and determination—earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records by collecting 8,514 pencil sharpeners, the largest collection in the world. The story of the blind girl who moved people in Greece and abroad became a symbol of perseverance, imagination, and creativity. Since 2004, her collection has been permanently displayed at the Valtonea Primary School and today includes over 12,500 sharpeners, along with a corresponding collection of erasers in an adjacent room. A colorful, original, and vibrant museum that wins you over with its sense of innocence and emotion—reminding us that determination can illuminate even the smallest village on the map.
