Church of Saint Demetrios – Lechovo

Gracing the central square of Lechovo since 1812, the Church of Saint Demetrios serves as the village’s cathedral, and it is considered a focal point of collective memory. Renovated in 1868, it acquired its present form following the architectural style of a three-aisled timber-roofed basilica that reflects the restrained grandeur of Macedonian ecclesiastical tradition.

Inside, visitors are struck by the exquisite wooden iconostasis crafted in 1864 by Epirus artisans, a true masterpiece of 19th-century woodcarving. The bishop’s throne, pulpit, and icon stands form a harmonious ensemble beside it, while the exterior bell tower’s grandeur is impossible to miss.
